Gone Fishin'

I got a good chuckle out of this.

This is Owen's (well...Aaron's) first fish of the season. Sebby as you can see is...umm...fishing for a little something else.

7 Random things about ME!

1. In the summer, when I was young, I used to get 6 freckles straight across my nose.
2. I eat raw eggs.
3. I love the sound of guitar playing, BUT that sounds that people make when they slide their fingers across the strings makes my spine want to turn inside out.
4. I desperately want to be like Kiera Knightley in the most recent version of Pride and Predjudice. Love that movie!
5. I often times read magazines back to front.
6. I love harvesting food (picking rasperberries, cucumbers, gathering eggs, etc.)
7. I hate being too hot.

And that is that.

I think I like turning 29...

and I am going to do it every year from here on out!

I had a good day. I received phone calls from every sibling (and their children, thanks Eli!)and enjoyed talking with all of them. Got a message from my dad that made me cry...in a good way. I spent the afternoon hanging out with the boys while they played outside. Beautiful and uplifting day!

Owen made me a ruby necklace for my birthday. He colored a diamond-shaped piece red on a piece of paper, cut it out, punched a hole in it and asked for a string to make the necklace for me. He said it was my ruby necklace for my birthday. He just might make some girl happy someday, huh?!?

We went for a walk with some people from our small group at church. We walked the 3.6 miles around one of the lakes in Winona, drinking coffee and chatting. It was great. Putting together two or my favorite things, coffee and a-walking. The air was so refreshing down there by the water and all the geese and ducks were hanging out.

When we got home, Aaron took the boys in so I could run to Walgreen's and pick up some make-up. There was a buy 1 get 1 free deal and so I thought I would treat myself, ya know, since it was my birthday. I am not much of a make-up girl, but I thought I could stock up on a few things that I haven't bought in years. Just one of those things that you kind of need but don't buy nearly often enough...like new underwear.

I saw some underwear there, almost bought some of them, too, but I didn't want to stoop that low. It's not like they were granny panties or anything. They were normal underwear, but it's the stigma attached to it, ya know. I'll buy them at Walmart (maybe), but Walgreen's...come on. Walgreen's + underwear = NOT SO COOL! I am only 29, I am still cool, right?

RIGHT!?!

So I find myself shopping for underwear at Walgreen's on my 29th birthday. Not what everyone does, but I enjoyed it. Now I sit here in my old underwear, juiced up on coffee that I drank too late in the day. I have make-up I am not quite sure how to use and a lovely ruby necklace.

I think I like turning 29.

Oh yeah, he's got it!

These are the moves Aaron used on me when we were dating that really made my heart flutter. No really. How can you not love that! But, woe to the person that gets caught behind those elbows. If you value your eye sockets, stay away. Far, far away.
This is the way that we spent last Sunday night. Just trying to chase away those Sunday blues. We preceded our little Bobby McFarin jam out session (the eye candy which you have just been so entertained by) with Hanson's MMM Bop. Then we brought down the house with none other than M.C. Hammer's 'Can't touch this." Owen loved the Hanson song which is either really funny or really scary to me.
So, here's to not taking yourself so seriously and (like Jen said) getting your groove on.

Socializing those Homeschoolers

Aaron and I are going to have to sharpen up our skills on this one if we are going to do right by our boys and properly 'socialize' them if we choose to homeschool. We need to really put to use those immature, degrading, disrespectful comments and actions if we want our boys to know how to deal with the 'real' world. Daily, I suppose. That could be hard to stay disciplined with, but I suppose it is that important. We all know what it feels like so it shouldn't be hard to think of some real good ones that could really sting and devalue. We will start small and age appropriate and go from there. I'll try calling Sebby 'poopyface' and forcing Owen to play pretty, pretty princess if he doesn't smell my feet. If they respond well (fight back tears and/or appear to be suppressing anger), then I know I have done my job.

Foreign Language Lesson

Okay, Aaron and Owen just ran to the store so I have about 15.6 minutes to try to post something. I have been reading a great book and so it was really a toss up whether to blog or to read. I guess I will try to savor the book and not blow through it every chance I get, so here I sit blogging.

I woke up early to watch a friend's little boy while she went to the doctor. He is a sweet kid, but his presence here made Sebby a little territorial. It all went really well, but I was always running interference while Sebby played the dominant male.

Being a mom can sure leave you feeling perplexed at times. Owen came downstairs after printing out a 'receipt' upstairs in his home 'office'. Very important. He began reading it to me, talking to me, and apparently chastising me quite sternly and lively. All this in a tongue of several languages. I sat there listening just to see how far he was going to go with this and he rambled on for quite a while talking in Spewlian. Now, that is not a subcategory of the English language where one spews out words nonsensically. No, that is a langauge of part Spanish, part Jewish, part Italian. Got that? Once he was finished I said, "Very impressive. NO COMPRENDO!" That is about as bilingual as I get.

While Owen was trilingually ripping me a new one, I had heard a few phrases that I had used on him earlier that day when I was ranting about him not picking up his toys. I had thrown out a couple doozies like giving away some of his toys to children who don't have any who could take better care of them and so on. It was obvious at the time that he did not like my threats. But, I wasn't sure he was even really listening to my monologue about toy responsibilty and being part of a community, blah, blah, blah. Good point on my part, poor approach.

BUT HE DID HEAR...well kind of!

When he came back later to harangue me (still processing this a couple hours later), he had stored up some of those soundbytes and threw them into his trilingual flurry of words. He wanted to chew me out as equally eloquent as I had to him, but what he lacked was the verbal skills to make this work well. So I got an earful of Spewlian with a few zingers in English thrown in there. Owen didn't know he was making a point, but he makes a wondeful mirror if I keep my ears and eyes open.

Um, am I in the right room?

Aaron has been having way too much fun with this bloggerific life of his so I have decided to join the party for a blooming, blogtastic time. I'll see how this all works out for me. Maybe I will find that I don't have much to say outside of trying to correct Aaron's spelling or adding my two cents into what he has to say (which always ends up like, "Thanks for your insight/advice/opinion. GET YER OWN BLOG!"). Way to stand you ground, Aaron. The world needs to hear your opinion absent the Cherity persuasion. So, put on your helmets, it could be a bumpy ride. Propriety is not always my forte. Life is such a learning process, I don't quite know what being human all entails. I do know that it includes making big mistakes, making beautiful choices, tempers, farts, dirt, dogs, hugs, cookies and coffee for breakfast...all of which you will see here.
Take care and hope to see you around.
